Group Leader
Job Description
Group leaders at Discovery Day Camp perform a key role at camp based on trust, empathy, and mutual respect for children and staff alike.
Group leaders are responsible for supporting and encouraging each child to participate fully in all aspects of camp, allowing campers to gain
a maximum benefit from their camp experience. Group leaders are responsible for:
The safety of campers and staff
A small group of campers
Creating relationships with their campers
Calling campers parents at least twice during the summer
Enthusiasm and flexibility
Requirements
- Must be college or older
- Experience of attending a camp or working at a camp (helpfull)
- Red Cross lifeguard and or Water Safety Instructor certificate or a willingness to obtain certification
- Confidence in attending to the daily needs of campers
- Ability to maintain a positive group environment
- Skills in encouraging group cohesion and building self esteem
- Ability and desire to create relationships with campers
- Call all parents on the phone at least twice each summer
- Be preapred to:
- Swim twice daily
- Lead campers in sports activities
- Be an active participant and role model during specialists and special event activities
