In 1984 Ilise and David Schwartzwald founded Discovery Day Camp to meet the needs of their three young children.
Ilise and David originally rented property for the camp and later purchased property in unincorporated Lake County.
Discovery has been at its current location in Indian Creek, since the fall of 1992. Campers enjoy the variety of activities, however what makes Discovery unique is the camp’s emphasis on personal growth and group relationships.
The opportunity to develop relationships and the discovery of self are what makes a summer at Discovery special. Campers and staff return year after year in order to be with their camp friends. Many of our staff members were Discovery campers when they were younger and former staff members are now sending their children to Discovery so that their children can have the Discovery experience, too!
